ANZAC Day

After a scorching Sunday, Monday (ANZAC day) was a dismal let down. Driving rain and bitter cold saw the ANZAC service where I was in Akaroa adjourn to the Gaiety Hall. Quite fitting historically (built in 1879), and it was chocker block. A really nice service – but the best of all was that it was dry!

Probably as much to do with being a small town, but the number of elderly servicemen were pretty much able to be counted on one hand. It won’t be long at all really, that there will be no WWII veterans left. Vietnam veterans now show there age. I think though the participation by younger kids will continue to grow, as we continue to acknowledge the journey taken in the growth of our nation.
