I have just returned from Wellington, for the annual NZIPP conference and Epson Iris Awards. What a great time we all had. To be surrounded by such inspirational photographers, all with a shared passion, is just what you need once a year.
I had the pleasure to be asked to judge for the first time. I enjoyed this far more than I expected. Certainly the pressure to ‘perform’ is an onerous one. As a shared panel, we viewed about 250 images each day in various categories. While there was a lot of variety, the process does reinforce in my mind the wealth of creative talent we have in such a small country. A cliche maybe, but for a pool of 4million people, we do punch above our weight. At times perhaps, judging is a little too tough. But this alone makes the honour of any print award more valuable. Thank you to the Honours Board for having me as part of this process.
Top effort to all organisers, speakers, attendees & award entrants. The power of membership is the collective support we can offer each other, and push our craft forward (OK – and have a few drinks!!).
