I managed to get a night away in Tekapo this weekend. It was a bit of a push given the busy month at hand, but worth it. I was keen to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Australis, and pretty much gave up hope. Despite a big solar flare on Wednesday, it seemed that cloudy skies and a full moon would have prevented any sign of this being seen. Well, so I thought until I took a good look at my photos. Low behold, there it was! Not huge admittedly, but just imagine what it would have been like without the clouds. I’m keen to keep an eye to see what develops in the coming months, as we peak in a 18yr cycle of solar activity.
